Jon Herzog of Root Down Tree
I remember in 2004 when I first met Jon Herzog. He was a degreed forester, working as a line clearance arborist in Minnesota and seeking to move back to Wisconsin. He claimed he was the best climber among his line clearance comrades, so I setup his job interview as a climbing interview. We spent a couple of hours climbing together in a signature cottonwood in Portage, WI. Jon quickly realized that there was a difference between line clearance tree climbers and arboricultural tree climbers. Jon competently applied everything he learned and became our top climber and foreman.
In 2010, as I was changing my business model, I helped Jon set up his own company, Rootdown Tree Service which he competently grew to what it is today. We stayed in close contact throughout the years both as friends and business associates.
My company, Hamm’s ArborCare, has always fulfilled Jon’s Plant Health Care client needs and we have collaborated on countless jobs. Because of this close association, it is with great sorrow that I announce Jon’s unexpected passing on Sunday July 2 while outside on his property with his dog. Jon loved all of nature and always had time for his dog. He was loved by many and his place in this world will surely be both missed and fondly remembered. As many of you know, Jon was a kind, gentle soul of a man that pursued his work passionately and served his clients and their trees with utmost care. Due to our close business relationship, I have offered to not only fulfill his outstanding jobs at the price he has quoted but have offered to keep his data base of clients active and apply a portion of all proceeds to benefit his surviving daughter Samara, who was the joy of his life. In this way, we can keep Jon’s memory alive for years to come
